In this monograph an attempt was made to evaluate the effect of stereotactic procedures in Parkinsonian patients on the psychopathology of this disorder. The assumption was made that "Parkinsonism", which included all varieties of this disorder, is associated with specific emotional disturbances and that these are favorably affected by the operation. Five distinct emotional syndromes were recognized by the author in his pre- and postoperative survery of 129 patients. All patients were psychologically abnormal before the operation but 33 were classified in syndrome groups four and five which included those with severe mental disturbances. The clinical deficits of these patients were considered also and occupied four pages. Patients were scored according to their neurological handicaps and a definite statistical correlation was found between the severity of the neurological and psychological disturbances.
