The current rage for pocketbook guides to all manner of complicated problems is, on the face of it, an odd phenomenom. Nevertheless, it seems to be successful judging from the number of such books published. The author of this second edition is intent to provide general surgeons and physicians with a guide to the management of craniocerebral trauma.

Short sections on diagnostic methods precede examples of various types of cranio-cerebral trauma and their management. An excellent chapter on the care of the unconscious patient is also included. The book has fine illustrations and contains an index.

While this volume undoubtedly fulfills the aim of the author when judged by those familiar with head injuries, one wonders whether inexperienced surgeons, when confronted with a case of head injury, would benefit by reading it. Happily, though, most patients needing expert neurosurgical care will eventually be channeled to the appropriate centers. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
