The title of this "outline series" paperback points up the thrust of the presentation—it is a synopsis. The text and the schematic diagrams are simple, concise, and straightfor-ward. The authors stress classic neuroanatomy along with some newer findings of the last decade.

The value of this synopsis would have been enhanced considerably with the judicious inclusion of more recent advances, modern concepts, and pertinent functional correlates. Among the additions, which could have been included, are: the gamma efferent fiber as a component of the negative feedback gamma loop, the distinction between the reticular formation and the reticular system, the role of interneurons (such as Renshaw cells) in such neural processing expressions as focusing effect and lateral inhibition, the autonomic nervous system and its role in homeostasis and the inclusion of such terms as adrenergic fiber, cholinergic fiber, and Horner's syndrome. . . .
