The volume introduces a new review series to be published at unspecified intervals under the editorship of Arnold Friedman, MD, an investigator well known for his own contributions to the study of headache. In the foreword, the editor points out that the burgeoning number of publications on headache calls for a forum in which authorities can analyze, appraise, and summarize work on various aspects of the problem.
This book consists of nine contributions. In the opening chapter, Kunkle gives a brief but pithy discourse on the relationship between the physician and patient with headache. Sicuteri contributes a lengthy but informative chapter on "vasoneuroactive" substances and their implication in vascular pain. Carroll contributes a pedestrian chapter on migraine, while Greene provides a more stimulating dissertation on the inter-relationship of headache and the menstrual cycle.
