This book is a compilation of articles dealing directly or indirectly with many aspects of neuroendocrinology. The title is poorly chosen as it is in no way an introduction to this subject. The attempt of the editor to convert it into a step wise consideration of subject is artificial. For example, the section on "Neuroendocrine Structures and Mechanisms in Man" is a collection of disparate contributions ranging from basic anatomy of the hypothalmus to the endocrine response to auditory stress. The section on "Neuroendocrine Approach to Disease" devotes a major article to the electroencephalogram in thyroid disease—a subject that should be mentioned but not stressed in an introductory text. Many of the articles are excellent but have already appeared in journals. The editor's summary article at the end is valuable for its extensive bibliography.
Of some interest to neurologists is the chapter on endocrine disorders encountered in cerebrovascular disease.
