This is an abridged form of a thesis submitted by the author for a higher degree at the Albrechts-University Kiel and is published in the series of collected psychiatric and neurological works. It is concerned with the value of drawing and writing test in psychiatric and neurological diagnoses, based on the study of 1,234 patients and 266 controls. The author had the difficult task of finding specific disturbances of graphic performance in neurological disorders and assessing their localizing value. Furthermore, an attempt was made to determine the specificity of findings for certain diseases and in various stages of the disorders.
Graphic performance of patients, which includes drawing and writing, depends a great deal on their premorbid achievements in this and on the interpretation of abnormalities by the examiner.
