The literature on headache is extensive but heretofore no systematic attempt has been made to explore in a single volume the problem as it relates to children. This work deals effectively with various aspects of headaches in children from several viewpoints, each considered by persons with special competence. It is a technique that Arnold Friedman has applied successfully in his general work on the subject of headache in which he collaborated with Houston Merritt.

One of the notions that has somehow been abroad is that significant headaches in children are indeed infrequent. My own experience is that this is a misconception and in the first papers in the volume the facts are set straight as Bo Bille of Uppsala leaves no doubt in our minds that children have them often—the only problem seems to be that adults prefer not to take them seriously.
