Comparison in the Evaluation of Brain Pathology

PRIOR to November 1963, chlormerodrin Hg 203 as introduced by Blau and Bender¹ was used for all brain scans done in our clinic. Chlormerodrin Hg 197 was then substituted for most of these scans because of the significantly lower radiation dose involved. More recently sodium pertechnetate TC 99m was introduced and is now being used almost exclusively with either of the chlormerodrin preparations used sparingly. Our early experiences with chlormerodrin Hg 197 and technetium Tc 99m have been reported elsewhere.^4-6 This report compares the results of chlormerodrin Hg 203 scans with the results of cerebral angiography and pneumoencephalography⁷ done on a series of 442 patients. . . .
