This second part of vol 5 of the Short Handbook of Human Genetics is concerned with the genetic aspects of psychiatry. Like most books of this type, it is neither short nor a handbook in the true sense. It is a cooperative venture by a number of distinguished authors and represents a thorough review of the subject. Because the genetics of psychiatry alone could hardly fill such a voluminous book, metabolic disorders and chromosomal abnormalities associated with mental retardation, as well as epilepsy, migraine, and parenchymatous degeneration of the brain were inevitably included. The psychoses occupy only a little over a hundred pages in this otherwise most exhaustive review. Extensive and complete reference is made to the world's literature, and the tables are particularly helpful for quick orientation. Most of the sections suffer somewhat from the difficulties the contributors had in limiting their discussion to the genetic aspects. Thus,
