The fifth in a series of paperback monographs on allergy directed to the practicing physician and chiefly to the generalist, the present volume seeks to call attention to the possible role of allergy in the etiology of headache and of the allergist in its treatment. The authors present a general survey of headache mechanisms, discuss very briefly the clinical features of the common headache syndromes, and then review evidence that allergic factors may play a role in both migraine and nonmigrainous headache. They present some original data but chiefly draw from the work of Pagniez, Vallery-Radot, and Nast, and of Vaughn, Rowe, Rinkel, Unger, Eyerman, and others who have promoted the concept of allergic headache. The authors believe that allergic factors should be considered potentially important in patients who have concomitant manifestations of recognized allergic etiology such as asthma, chronic conjunctivitis, or allergic dermatoses and especially in patients with evidence
