This third edition of a well known text shares with its predecessors the unique distinction of having been completely illustrated by the author in a most artistic way. The author modestly states that this edition has been both revised and enriched. It is the author's opinion that knowledge of neuroanatomy is better imparted by pictures than description and that interpretative drawings are more effective than photographs. Text material is regarded as lengthening study time, while illustrations shorten it.

The format and arrangement of chapters are the same as in the second edition. In fact, comparison of these editions reveals the same text and the same illustrations on exactly the same pages for the first 300 pages of the book.
