Venous Anatomy of Human Hindbrain

A Stereomicroangiographic Study of the Venous Angio-architecture and the Venous Areas of Drainage

Ove Hassler, MD

Arch Neurol. 1967;16(4):404-409.

The increasing demands for exactness in x-ray diagnosis and other clinical work have made it desirable to know more about the normal venous areas of drainage and the venous angio-architecture of this region.1 The purpose of the present work was to study the venous anatomy by stereomicroangiography.

Material and Methods

Hindbrain specimens from 61 necropsies were used. The necropsies were chosen at random at the Department of Pathology, University Hospital, Umeå, Sweden, from subjects in which the clinical examination had disclosed no signs of brain disease. There were four children aged less than 1 year, and the age range of the remaining subjects was 47 to 89 years. The mean age of all the adult subjects was 69.7 years. . . .
