This concise yet comprehensive monograph is a review of present day knowledge of catecholamines. Their source, distribution, metabolism, and functional significance are presented in a text noteworthy for its clarity, adequate illustration, and well-chosen bibliography. Neurologists will find this volume useful in updating their information in a field which is assuming major importance in the understanding of neural function in general; in the pathogenesis of such complex conditions as parkinsonism and a variety of behavioral disorders; and the mode of action of a number of potent pharmacological agents in use in medicine today which owe their effect to disrupting the metabolism of catecholamines. A careful reading of this volume will provide the clinician with a ready frame of reference by which to critically evaluate these new concepts.
