Both symposia in the March 1966 volume of Modern Treatment are of interest to neurologists. Neuromuscular disorders are reviewed by members of the staff of the Mayo Clinic, and hypoglycemia is the second subject, with contributions by authors from several different centers.

Drug therapy in neuromuscular disease is essentially restricted to myasthenia (described by Howard), polymyositis and dermatomyositis (Winkelmann), and periodic paralysis (A. G. Engel). There may be differences of opinion about some aspects, but these authors write sensibly and to the point. Sections on anterior horn cell disease, neuronitis, muscular dystrophies, hereditary atrophies, and acquired neuropathies are written by appropriate authorities; but with the exception of a few neuropathies, treatment of these disorders is symptomatic and relatively ineffective. Is it advisable to devote a book to "treatment" of these conditions?
