In a text numbering less than 200 pages, the author has produced a most comprehensive review of the numerous pathological processes affecting the spinal cord. Not only are the more commonly encountered conditions of the spinal cord dealt with but also those rare entities such as parasitic infections and toxic myelopathies. The material is well-organized, easily readable, adequately illustrated, and annotated with brief clinical notes. Bibliographic citations are wisely chosen so that the reader desiring more information regarding controversial concepts of pathogenesis, or variants of particular disease processes, can readily extend his information.
The neuropathological descriptions are concise but given in enough detail to satisfy the needs of clinicians, though the neuropathologists will find them somewhat thin. The latter, however, may find the chapter devoted to methods of preparing spinal cord specimens of some use as a reference and guide for his trainees in neuropathology.
