Myasthenia Gravis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

BOTH systemic lupus and myasthenia gravis are suspected of having an "auto-immune" etiology. Therefore, their association in the same patient is of interest, and the purpose of this paper is to report the 15th patient known to have both diseases.

Report of a Case

A 28-year-old woman was seen in April 1962. For three months she had noted weakness of the arms and legs, usually occurring in the late afternoon. She had difficulty fixing her hair, walking, climbing stairs, arising from chairs, and, on one occasion, she could not get out of the bathtub. During this time there also was intermittent drooping of the right eyelid.

For one year there were also recurrent episodes of swelling, tenderness, and soreness of her wrists and proximal interphalangeal joints.
