This volume is a typically European Festschrift celebrating the seventieth birthday of Ernst Grünthal. It consists of fifteen articles which, within the wide variety, reflect the enormous range of interest of E. Grünthal. He is Director of the Institute of Brain Anatomy associated with the Neuropsychiatric Department of the University of Berne, Switzerland. The Institute was founded in 1936 with the help of the Rockefeller Foundation and has been under Grünthal's leadership ever since. Grünthal himself is the author of more than a hundred publications which range from anatomy of the central nervous system, neuropathology, clinical neurology, and psychiatry to biographical studies of outstanding neuropsychiatrists as well as studies of Goethe.
It is impossible here to review all fifteen articles. The entire volume is on an exceedingly high level and makes fascinating reading for anyone concerned with neurology and psychiatry who has a reading knowledge of German. Only the summaries
