Dr. Williams, a well known orthopedist with a special concern for low back disorders, has carefully put together in readable form his concepts of management of such disorders. He carefully emphasizes the fact that he is chiefly concerned with conservative treatment. The book progresses through anatomy, muscular dynamics, and diagnostic techniques. His own exercise prescriptions are exhaustively described. For the general medical reader, this monograph could serve as an excellent general source of information and guide to a well conceived schema of treatment. It is worth pointing out, however, that considered as a guide for orthopedists, the book's most vulnerable area is in its section on neurological diagnosis. It is in this very area that the orthopedist needs most assistance in proper evaluation of patients whose diseases commonly have some neurological implication.
