Although numerous clinicopathological reviews of ballism have been published in the last twenty years, this is the first monograph on the subject. Inaugural dissertations published in the last century (J.U. Pfefferkorn, 1833; H.H. Langer, 1838) under the title of "De Ballismo" appear to refer to choreae Sancti Viti or chronic progressive chorea, and while bearing some resemblances to ballism as currently defined, seem to run a very different clinical course. Because of the resurgence of interest in all forms of human dyskinesia, this monograph will be welcomed as a valuable addition to literature of a special and unique form of dyskinesia. Dr. Juba has assembled the most significant data concerning ballism and chorea and has attempted to correlate it with lesions and resulting degeneration. The subject matter is well organized and competently discussed from many points of view.
