The volume contains the papers and discussions of 109 participants in the Second International Symposium on the Response of the Nervous System to Ionizing Radiation which was held in Los Angeles in 1963. It was hoped that the cross-fertilization resulting from the exchange of ideas between such diverse disciplines as pathology, radiology, neurology, neurophysiology, biochemistry, and experimental psychology would stimulate further research in this important segment of radiobiology. The multidisciplinary approach of this symposium is reflected by the five major divisions of the book; cytological changes after radiation of the nervous system, the effects of radiation on brain chemistry, radiation induced functional changes in the central nervous system, the effects of radiation on behavior, and radiation induced changes in the peripheral nervous system and spinal cord.
