The fifth edition of Functional Neuroanatomy makes no reference to the original author, A. R. Buchanan, except for a brief mention in the preface. This seems like a rather harsh reward for the original author who carried the text through four editions during a period of thirteen years. Although the acknowledgement is slight, previous editions continue to form the basis for this new volume. Each edition since the first has carried a line on the title page claiming the text to be "Thoroughly Revised" but a review of previous editions indicates that this is the most extensive revision. In the opinion of this reviewer, the present authors have made a complete overhaul of a text which had fallen below acceptable standards. Major changes made in this edition include, in addition to extensive rewriting: (1) New illustrations, many in color, (2) A more modern bibliography at the end of each chapter, . . .
