Pediatric Neurology is an inclusive account of the diseases affecting the nervous systems of infants and children, and is written by 13 authors. As with any volume so compiled, rather wide variations are found in the quality of various chapters. Of superb quality are Chapter 1 on "Neurologic History and Examination" and Chapter 3 on "Disturbance of Water and Electrolytes." Both of these chapters probably are more valuable to pediatricians and students than to neurologists, since the latter usually have their own methods of examining babies and are not asked to see infants with electrolyte disturbances.
The chapter on "Mental Deficiency" brings the subject into excellent focus and adequately discusses the inextricable intermingling of endowment and experience in this situation. A word of caution about mental tests and the transference of IQ's from one set of tests to another is, however, in order. Many of the infant tests require a
