This is the sixth in a series of communications sponsored by the International Brain Research organization, under the auspices of UNESCO, as part of an effort to record the latest advances in selected areas of neurological research. The wide range of topics included in this volume are those presented in the Symposium held as a part of the Third International Meeting of Neurobiologists at the Anatomical Institute of the University of Kiel in September, 1962. The majority of the 19 papers are original reports, many of which would have qualified for publication in specialized scientific journals.
Of particular interest are the observations of H. Van Der Loos on the fine structure of various types of interneuronal contact zones. The appearance and possible functional significance of dendrodendritic appositional sites, characterized by the absence of synaptic vesicles, are described.
