This French atlas attempts to outline the neuroanatomy of the central nervous system with schematic drawings on 111 plates. The figures are simplified representations. The page facing each plate has a short account of the salient features illustrated in the figures. The spiral binding is an asset.
The neuroanatomy illustrated and described is that of 20 or more years ago. Modern advances are not included, eg, gamma loop, olivo-cochlear efferent tract, and concept of reticular system. Errors are included, eg, reference to the connections with the cerebral cortex is omitted in the figure illustrating the accommodation reflex pathway.
The concept of this atlas is sound. However, the authors do not fulfill its potential. The modification of the figures in a subsequent revision could make this volume useful and popular. The format affords an effective vehicle by which certain fundamentals of neuroanatomy can be readily learned by a beginning student and
