The second edition of this work, appearing five years after the first, amply maintains the high standards of the original. Dr. Greenfield's death, which occurred before the appearance in print of the first edition, deprived him of the satisfaction of seeing his book widely used and appreciated. The task of republication has fallen to his able associates, now increased to five by the eminent addition of Prof Dorothy S. Russell, who contributes to the chapter on traumatic lesions. With some rearrangements the present volume retains the format, and much of the substance, of the first edition but the section on the demyelinating diseases by R. M. Norman, has been extensively revised and recast. The material on nutritional disorders and vitamin deficiencies has been gathered into a single chapter by A. Meyer.
