This short monograph of 58 pages consists of a series of photographs which depict the normal development of the reflexes of posture and equilibrium in infants and children. It includes the reflex testing and motor development charts that are utilized at the Newington Hospital for Crippled Children in Connecticut. The reflexes as presented by the author, who is the Director of Occupational Therapy at this hospital, are divided into those mediated at the spinal, brain stem, midbrain, and cortical levels. The method of elicitation, the negative and positive responses, and the age interval for which a positive reaction is considered normal are listed and illustrated for each reflex.
The author, who has had a wide experience with the cerebral-palsied child, believes that an understanding of reflex development will lead to an earlier evaluation of abnormal responses in such children and hence an earlier referral for therapy. She has tended to
