Rarely has any scientific field contributed as much to the understanding of the disease mechanism of neurologic and psychiatric diseases as the field of molecular genetics. The progress achieved only recently is tremendous. The availability of new chip technologies and the first trials of gene therapy for central nervous system disorders are a large step forward. New consortia have been established, with one of the most exciting coming from investigations of interspecies conserved elements and their functional role in human health and disease states. The new edition of this benchmark book addresses all these new developments and provides a comprehensive update of the scientific basis of disease mechanism and an extensive guide of neurologic and psychiatric disorders. The list of contributors is substantial and includes outstanding basic science researchers and experts in the clinical management of their respective diseases.
