Cardiac Involvement in Bethlem Myopathy

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 150 words of the full text and any section headings.

With interest we read the article by van der Kooi et al1 on cardiac involvement (CI) and pulmonary involvement of 50 patients with Bethlem myopathy (BMP). The article raises concerns.

Which other risk factors for atherothrombosis in addition to arterial hypertension were present among the included patients? How many had diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, thyroid dysfunction, or a history of myocardial infarction or rhythm abnormalities, and how many were smokers or obese? How many had undergone stress tests or coronary angiography? The cardiac abnormalities described may be simply attributable to coronary artery disease.

Why did only 37 and 43 of the 50 patients undergo cardiac and pulmonary investigations, respectively? Considering the wide age range, were rather younger or rather older patients investigated? What was the indication for cardiac or pulmonary investigations? How many had both investigations?
