This book is edited and for the most part written by specialists in cancer pain and aimed at primary care physicians, residents, nurses, and medical students. Therefore, it is not a primary source of information for neurologists. The book is divided into general sections covering assessment of pain syndromes, pharmacologic therapies, interventional procedures, psychological interventions, and rehabilitation issues. Special chapters are devoted to pain and addictive disease and legal and regulatory issues in pain management. The special section includes cancer pain, palliative care, visceral pain, neuropathic pain, headache, back pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, pelvic pain, and chest pain. Of particular interest for neurologists are the chapters on temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain, pain in human immunodeficiency virus and AIDS, and pain in elderly individuals.
