This excellent, clinically oriented book presents neuro-ophthalmology using a skillful combination of a problem-solving approach and in-depth discussions on many neuro-ophthalmic conditions. In situations in which conditions are less extensively discussed, pertinent and salient points are made.
This well-organized textbook is divided into 4 parts. The first part deals with history and examination and is particularly useful for those new to the subject. It also includes a section on the neuro-ophthalmic approach to a comatose patient. The following 3 sections comprise address visual pathway disorders, efferent neuro-ophthalmic disorders, and headache and facial pain. Each chapter begins with a brief summary of the chapter topic, followed by a discussion of neuroanatomy and pathophysiology, and there are many helpful illustrations. Commonly encountered symptoms and signs are described, followed by a discussion on the appropriate clinical approach and the diagnosis. Specific etiologic conditions and their treatments are then presented.
