This 12-chapter textbook addresses some of the key issues regarding
management of arteriovenous malformations in functional areas of the brain.
Although it was primarily written by Dr Shokei Yamada, a well-known neurosurgeon
in the field, several chapters were written by other world-renowned experts.
Other textbooks have addressed general issues relevant to vascular malformations,
and surgical issues are reasonably well addressed in several of the multivolume
neurosurgical textbooks; however, this is the first textbook dedicated to
arteriovenous malformations in functional areas of the brain.
The first chapter is a lengthy 122 pages and summarizes the surgical
approach to arteriovenous malformations in functional areas of the brain.
It is nicely illustrated with several color pictures that supplement the well-written
text. The chapter also contains 11 case presentations with associated radiologic
imaging and a description of the operative procedure. The cases are typical
