The end of the decade of the brain sees the generous effort of Dennis
S. Charney, Eric J. Nestler, and Benjamin S. Bunney to bring together in one
publication the recent advances in the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders.
The editors state that this project is a progress report amenable to substantial
revisions in further editions. While new findings may change to a degree the
content of many chapters, the first 2 sections on basic neurobiology and methods
for clinical neurobiological research will be primers for clinicians interested
in in-depth reading and interpretation of the scientific literature. Established
investigators looking to expand their interest to areas of neurobiology they
are not yet familiar with will find these chapters very useful to begin examining
literature less than easy to master.
Chapters 3 through 8 thoroughly report the neurobiological findings
in major psychoses, mood and anxiety disorders, and substance abuse disorders.
