Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease is a multiauthored text edited by Leonard Scinto and Kirk Daffner. As treatment options for Alzheimer disease (AD) are increasingly directed at disease-modifying therapies rather than symptomatic management, early and accurate diagnosis of AD becomes more important. This compilation is thus timely. However, as with any multiauthored text on a single topic, the book is inevitably excessive and at times redundant. For example, apolipoprotein E genetic testing is discussed in several chapters, including an entire chapter devoted to genetic testing. A chapter devoted to genetics provides a thorough overview of genetic risk factors and the genetics of AD, but does not discuss ₂-macroglobulin in a critical way; not too surprisingly, one of the authors is credited with making this somewhat controversial observation. The role of imaging in early diagnosis is another example of redundancy, being mentioned in chapters on early diagnosis and biomarkers as well . . . [Full Text of this Article]
