We are again reminded of the genius of Norman Geschwind in this new collection of his writing on language, behavior, and epilepsy. The selections were made by 2 of Geschwind's students who contribute commentaries to various groups of articles. They also add their own reflections on their personal encounters with Geschwind.
There are 27 articles classified in 6 groups: disconnection syndromes; language disorders; alexia and apraxia; hemispheric asymmetries, cerebral dominance, and handedness; epilepsy; and other neurobehavioral disorders. The classical article on disconnection syndromes appearing in "Brain" is not included because of space limitations.
The articles reflect the wide ranging interests of Geschwind and illustrate his approach to behavioral neurology. The editors point out several characteristics that mark his work.
