The Basal Ganglia V is derived from the proceedings of the fifth Triennial Meeting of the International Basal Ganglia Society (IBAGS) that took place in May 1995. As the editors comment in their preface, neither a major earthquake nor a terrorist attack in the Tokyo, Japan, subway system, both of which occurred shortly before the conference, deterred the participants from several days of stimulating scientific interchange. The quantity and quality of the scientific material discussed is evident in this volume.

More than 100 studies were presented at the conference and 61 are included here. The book is not intended to be a comprehensive textbook of basal ganglia physiology, but a collection of individual research articles. With few exceptions, individual chapters present data from original scientific investigations. Research on virtually all topics of current interest to neuroscientists studying the basal ganglia is presented. The text is well illustrated with graphic representation . . .
