This is a comprehensive review of a complex multidisciplinary problem. The editors and each of the authors are well-recognized experts in their respective areas of commentary.

This book contains 18 chapters. There is an initial 2-chapter overview. Nine of the chapters deal with specific etiologic aspects of syncope. Three chapters discuss specific populations of patients with unique aspects of diagnosis and management including children, athletes, and the elderly. Two chapters are dedicated to specific aspects of diagnosis with respect to electrophysiologic studies and the difficult-to-diagnose patient. Finally, 2 chapters deal with specific aspects of management including driving and other legal implications.

There are several particularly notable chapters. Chapter 2 is a broad-based general overview that is particularly useful in providing insight into the scope and overall complexity of syncope.
