A magnetic resonance imaging study was performed in three symptomatic
members of two families with a diagnosis of acetazolamide-responsive
familial paroxysmal ataxia. A selective atrophy of the cerebellar vermis,
mostly of the anterior part, was demonstrated in the three cases. The first
ample documentation of a neuroanatomical abnormality in this condition was
achieved in this study.
