Freud's Contribution to Neuroanatomy

Abstract

• Sigmund Freud, the acknowledged father of psychoanalysis, started his scientific career as a very promising neurohistologist. This report gives an overview of his early neuroanatomic articles and pioneering contributions to 19th-century neurologic science.

From the Center for Brain Research (Drs Triarhou and del Cerro) and the Departments of Anatomy and Neurology (Dr del Cerro), University of Rochester (NY) School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Triarhou is now with the Division of Neuropathology, Department of Pathology, Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.
