Relief of Pain and Spasticity by Posterior Column Stimulation

A Proposed Mechanism

Ernest A. Spiegel, MD

Arch Neurol. 1982;39(3):184-185.

Abstract

• The mechanism of posterior column stimulation in the treatment of spasticity and pain is poorly understood. Ascending conduction including the cerebellum plays a part in the therapeutic effect. Evoked potential studies are needed to test the extent of utilization of the proposed circuits.
