Modulation of Purkinje Cell Firing Rates by Surface Stimulation in the Cat

Richard M. Bilof, PhD; Robert D. Boehmer, PhD; Anthony Sances, Jr, PhD; Sanford J. Larson, MD, PhD; Edward A. Millar, MD

Arch Neurol. 1982;39(12):765-768.

Abstract

• Purkinje cell microelectrode recordings have been obtained in the presence of high-stimulus artifact during cerebellar surface stimulation. The results obtained suggest that an important relationship exists between stimulus frequency and spontaneous Purkinje cell firing rate. Purkinje cells respond to surface stimulation by initial excitation, followed by inhibition.
