Abstract
The clinical features, laboratory investigations, and tests of autonomic function in two sisters with indifference to pain are reported. The disorder differs from other syndromes associated with indifference to pain. The morphologic, quantitative, histologic, teased-fiber preparations, and electron microscopic features of the sural nerves showed a chronic neuropathy, a feature of which was the presence of "mosaic" Schwann cells. The clinicopathological correlation was not satisfactory; nevertheless, peripheral nerve disease was found in this variety of indifference to pain.
