Protein and Enzyme Alterations in Experimental Brain Injury

Ramon Lim, MD, PhD; Jack C. de la Torre, PhD; Sean Mullan, MD

Arch Neurol. 1972;27(4):314-321.

Abstract

Increased intracranial pressure was produced in the cat by epidural balloon compression. An increase in the activity of sodium-potassium-adenosine triphosphatase was detected in compressed brain compared to the control brain. Alterations in the acetylcholinesterase isozymes were detected with polyacrylamide electrophoresis. Evidence obtained by immunological means suggests the release of synaptic membrane antigens following cerebral injury.
