Cerebrospinal Fluid CytomorphologySedimentation vs Filtration

Abstract
Two recently developed sedimentation and filtration methods for the study of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cytomorphology were compared to each other and to older methods. For qualitative evaluations of CSF cells both methods constitute an improvement over the counting chamber, direct smear, and centrifugation techniques. The filtration procedure is adequate for identification of most neoplastic cells. For wider range and more precise studies, however, the sedimentation procedure proved to be far superior.
