Neuronal Cytoplasmic Globules in the Brain in Morquio's Syndrome

Floyd H. Gilles, MD; Ruthmary K. Deuel, MD

Arch Neurol. 1971;25(5):393-403.

Abstract

Cytoplasmic globules limited largely to neurons in thalamus and sectors CA2, CA3, and the hilus of the fascia dentata have been found in a radiologically documented case of Morquio's Syndrome. The material within neurons is composed of at least two ultrastructurally and histochemically distinct substances: possibly a lipofuscin and a hexose-containing lipid.
